Client case study: Times Eyewear
Jamie approached Aetha in 2021 with the idea of a pair of sunglasses that use a flexible strap rather than solid arms to create a pair of durable and incredibly secure sunglasses that never fall off and can be even worn like a necklace, they even fold flat so they can hide under your jacket.
The client had a 3D printed prototype of his idea but it needed developing to make it suitable for manufacture and sale. We refined the design by adapting the frame shape for comfort and sourced bio based materials along with Zeiss polarised lenses. We redesigned the strap for ease of use and with manufacture in mind using recycled materials. We sourced a factory in Italy that is producing and hand building the glasses near Milan.
Once the product design was complete we worked with Times to create a Kickstarter campaign for launch.
The Kickstarter was a great success, fully funded in 18 hours and +600 pairs were sold during the 30 day campaign generating +£40,000 in revenue to go to production. Sunglasses have now been delivered all over the world from Hawaii to Australia.
Alongside the sunglasses, we designed the packaging, branding and a microfibre case made from recycled plastic bottles. We believe in the product so much that we have partnered with the client in taking the product to market and we have just taken delivery of the second batch that are now for sale on wearetimes.com.
